Team

Adrian Ward MRCVS

BSc(Hons) BVetMed, Veterinary Surgeon & Principal

As a child, Adrian dreamed of becoming an astronaut or a fighter pilot. Fortunately for the pets of Hampshire (if not the UK Space Agency), he changed course and swapped jet engines for stethoscopes and four-legged patients.

Adrian graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 1996 and has accomplished a great deal since. Alongside his time in small-animal practice, he has worked with professional regulators in the veterinary (RCVS), accountancy (ICAEW), and human health (NMC) sectors, and served as a Non-Executive Director within the NHS. This experience has given him a broad understanding of clinical standards, professional ethics, and how to keep care focused on people and patients, whether human or animal.

During five years in the pharmaceutical industry as a technical advisor, Adrian trained vets across the UK in areas including antimicrobial resistance, anaesthesia, and epilepsy — so yes, he’s that level of clever (and, as you’d expect, very modest too).

Today, Adrian is the owner and Clinical Director of Neighbourhood Vet in Gosport, an independent practice he has built around the principles of honesty, compassion, and evidence-based care. He continues to work as a hands-on clinician while ensuring the practice remains true to its values of transparency and trust. Adrian is known for clear communication, realistic treatment plans, and for working with pet owners as partners, because nobody knows your pet better than you do.

Outside of work, Adrian lives with his wife, son, and a particularly mischievous Working Cocker Spaniel who politely (but firmly) ignores most of his commands. He’s also into gaming, amateur dramatics, running, and pretending he has control over the dog. (Spoiler: he doesn’t.)

Mari Makko MRCVS

Veterinary Physician (Estonia), Veterinary Surgeon

My journey as a vet started after graduating from Estonian Agricultural University in 2005. After gaining initial confidence as a budding vet, I moved to UK in 2014 to give myself a chance to grow professionally. Since the move I have been lucky enough to work across the country in different practices with fantastic teams and lovely patients.

2024 started for me by joining the amazing team at Neighbourhood Vet Gosport. 

My special interest lies in dentistry and dermatology but I am also very passionate about helping exotic pets and wildlife. 

Currently I have no pets but luckily I have the best job in the world where I can be part of so many furry, feathery and prickly little lives.

When I am not working, you can find me in the local gym, pool or Zumba class. Whenever I can, I give in for a travel bug and discover lovely places near and far.

Tim Clark RVN

FdSc Veterinary Nursing Science, Cert AVN, Head Nurse

I qualified in 2016 with a Foundation Science Degree in Veterinary Nursing Sciences and later achieved my Advanced Nursing Certificate in Anaesthesiology in 2021. My career has given me the opportunity to work across a wide range of settings—from small animal practices and a specialist referral hospital to an unforgettable period in Africa, where I cared for primates, lions, ostriches, and many other incredible species.

I have a particular passion for anaesthesia, but I’m equally enthusiastic about diagnostic imaging and the hands-on care provided in kennels, ensuring every patient feels safe, comfortable, and well looked after.

In my role as Head Veterinary Nurse at Neighbourhood Vet Gosport, I oversee and support our nursing team to maintain the highest standards of patient care. I also work closely with training colleges to ensure our practice remains an accredited training centre, helping to inspire and mentor the next generation of veterinary nurses as they embark on this rewarding profession.

Tiffany-Ann Manger RVN

GradCert AVN (Anaesthesia & Analgesia), Veterinary Nurse

Registered Veterinary Nurse | Advanced Veterinary Nurse | Ultrasound Enthusiast

I’m a dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse who qualified in 2021 and have since advanced my clinical skills by gaining a Certificate in Anaesthesia and Analgesia. While I have a genuine passion for all aspects of veterinary nursing, I have a particular interest in ultrasonography. I’ve completed several specialised courses in this area, enabling me to perform a range of diagnostic scans — with a strong focus on pregnancy scanning across multiple species.

My role as a theatre nurse is one I especially enjoy, where I put my anaesthesia and analgesia expertise into practice to ensure the highest standards of patient care during surgical procedures.

Outside of work, I enjoy winding down with crochet and spending time with my three much-loved dogs: Norma and Ethel, my spirited Chihuahuas, and Louie, my charming Papillon.

Daisy Hutchings RVN

FdSc Veterinary Nursing Science, Veterinary Nurse

I’m a newly qualified Veterinary Nurse and have been part of the Neighbourhood Vet Gosport team since August 2023, completing my training here and qualifying in 2025. I absolutely love being a part of such a supportive and dedicated team, and I especially enjoy working in kennels, where I can focus on caring for and comforting our patients.

Outside of work, I spend most of my time with my animals — looking after and competing my three horses, and enjoying adventures with my dog, Snupi.

Hayley Brooks SVN

Student Veterinary Nurse

Hi, I’m Hayley Brooks, a Student Veterinary Nurse at Neighbourhood Vet Gosport. I’ve been part of the team for four and a half years and am currently working towards my veterinary nursing qualification. I’m passionate about providing high-quality care for all our patients and supporting their owners throughout every stage of their pet’s health journey.

I have a particular professional interest in rabbit welfare and nurse clinics; I’m always looking to expand my knowledge in these areas to help improve the lives of our patients.

Outside of work, I live a busy life surrounded by animals — including horses, cats, dogs, rabbits, and guinea pigs. I love spending time with my daughter and partner, socialising with friends, attending football matches and getting out on my paddle board whenever I can.

I’m proud to be part of such a dedicated and compassionate team, and I look forward to meeting you and your pets at the practice.

Holly Marsh

Receptionist/Veterinary Care Assistant

I’ve been working in the veterinary industry since December 2018, and over the years, my passion for this field has only grown stronger. Even on the toughest days, the love I have for animals and the work we do makes it all worthwhile – plus the puppy cuddles are a great industry perk!

While the other kids were outside growing up, I was indoors with my teddy bears, playing doctor and dreaming up all kinds of weird and wonderful ailments for my poor traumatised “patients.” It didn’t take long to realise that while becoming a vet would have been super cool, I was actually drawn to the behind-the-scenes side of the industry.

Now, with over six years of combined front-of-house and nursing experience, I’ve found my niche in helping both clients and their pets feel welcome, informed, and cared for. Whether it’s offering a warm hello at the front desk or supporting the team in a busy clinic, being part of the heartbeat of a veterinary practice really is where I love to be.

I have a passion for rabbits in both medicine and behaviour, having run my own rabbit rescue & sanctuary for a few years. Aside from this, I find cardiology and neurology fascinating. 

Aside from my role on reception, I’m also employed as a Veterinary Care Assistant, meaning I can take my previous nurse training and still dip my toes into looking after our patients directly. I’ve also recently been granted the very fun and important task of assisting with social media, so you’ll find my occasional witty post floating around on our pages.

When I’m not working in veterinary, I’m hunched over my computer while stressing over my manuscripts. I now find my days spent being ordered around by four rabbits, three chihuahuas, two cats and I’m still waiting on the partridge in the pear tree. 

Annette Franckeiss-Edney

Receptionist

My name is Annette, and since February 2023 I’ve been working part-time on the reception team at this busy practice. My previous roles have included working with young children, supporting teenagers as an exams officer, and handling a variety of administrative duties across different settings.

I’ve always loved animals, having grown up with a menagerie of pets, so working in a veterinary environment feels like a natural fit. I really enjoy meeting and helping our clients — and the puppy cuddles, kitten kisses, and handing out doggy treats are definitely some of the best perks of the job!

Emma Parkes

Receptionist

I began my career in the veterinary industry in 2008, starting in reception where I developed a strong foundation in client service and practice operations. Over the years, I had the opportunity to help open a new veterinary practice, take on the role of managing the reception team, and gain valuable experience working in an emergency out-of-hours setting.

After a five-year break working in the motor trade, I returned to the veterinary world in 2023. I’ve since rejoined a team of familiar faces and continue to enjoy supporting clients and their pets as part of the front-of-house team. With a broad background and a passion for delivering excellent service, I’m proud to be back doing what I love.
